Now retired and living in Saint Paul, Barbara made her career as a teacher and consultant with nonprofit groups and funders. She specializes in fundraising, planning and board development. She served as adjunct faculty for St. Mary's University and the Center for Nonprofit Management at the University of St. Thomas. She is past chair of the board of directors of Minnesota Citizens for the Arts, a statewide advocacy organization.

She holds a BA from Stanford University and an MA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and has worked in nonprofit management since 1977.
