An annual survey conducted by the Women's Project Theatre showed that in the 2002-03 Season, out of 2007 productions at 357 theatres nation-wide just 16.9 percent were written or co-written by women and only 22.6 percent of those plays had female directors. The survey also uncovered that 37.8 percent of these theatres produced no plays by women at all.

These statistics translate to the local level. A recent article by the City Pages pointed to the renowned Guthrie Theatre stating that in the last nine seasons only 7 of 70 plays produced were written or co-written by women, a mere ten percent of their productions.

Theatre Unbound is dedicated to changing this outlook. As a small company we are committed to affecting the theatre community on a grass roots level. By opening up opportunities for women actors, directors, playwrights and designers, we give them the power to affect the theatre community on a larger scale.
