Directors' Gym IV:

The Directors:

Seeking eight women directors - seasoned in the field or brand new and curious.

The Gym:

To provide a venue for experimentation and creativity; to provide experience for new directors; to expand the pool of female directors in the Twin Cities.

2008 Project:

Folktales with a Fresh Perspective. Each director will direct a 10-minute scene exploring a classic fairy or folktale in a fresh and innovative way - from a female character's perspective. (Example: Jack and the Beanstalk from the Giantess' viewpoint.)

Dates:

• Project begins: January 7, 2008
• Performances: February 29 - March 1, 2008

Theatre Unbound will provide:

• An open audition call and additional actor contacts, if necessary.
• Playwright assistance.
• Access to props and costumes.
• A mid-rehearsal critique session with a prominent Twin Cities director.
• A short tech rehearsal in the performance space.
• Three publicized performances open to the public, with special invitations to Twin Cities theater representatives.
• A modest stipend.

Directors will provide:

• Rehearsal time and space.
• CDs of sound cues.
• Creative genius!

• Letter of intent detailing why you are interested in the Gym project
• A brief synopsis of your favorite childhood story, plus an outline of how you might change it to emphasize a female perspective (this will NOT be the project you work on)
