Robin Morgan:
The "otherizing" of women is the oldest oppression known to our species, and it's the model, the template, for all other oppressions.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THEATRE UNBOUND MEETS SURVIVOR
8th Annual 24-Hour Play Project and Benefit Gala
Just like reality TV – but better!

Theatre Unbound is thrilled to announce this year's "Survivor" themed event. "To start with, our home audience gets to vote on which ridiculous elements the writers will have to incorporate into six new plays - a dead fish, a Bozo the Clown wig, schadenfreude - they're all fair game," says Unbound Artistic Director Stacey Poirier. "It's better than voting somebody off the island, because you actually get to come to 'the island' and watch the participants squirm their way through obstacles you helped choose!"

The 24-Hour Play Project and Benefit Gala continues Theatre Unbound's mission of providing opportunities to women artists. Playwrights, directors, and actors take on the challenge of writing, rehearsing and propelling new work onto the stage in just 24 hours! The Gala includes a silent auction complete with Survivor themed packages and complimentary cocktails and hors d'oeuvres.

Doors open at 7:00pm for cocktail hour and silent auction bidding

PROCESS
Through our website, we invite the general public to vote among 50 ingredients such as a line of dialog, an emotion, a prop, or a stage direction. On Friday evening at 9pm, we reveal the winning ingredients to six teams of two playwrights, who must include all the ingredients in their scripts. At 6:00 on Saturday morning, the newly written plays are assigned directors, a cast, and rehearsal time. Rehearsals are conducted throughout the day - technical rehearsals skid to a halt just in time for the doors to open at 7pm. Performances begin at 8pm.
