FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 22, 2008
THEATRE UNBOUND GETS THE LINGO
7th Annual 24-Hour Play Project and Benefit Gala
Hosted by Fringe Superstar Allegra Lingo
Theatre Unbound is thrilled to announce Allegra Lingo as special guest host of this year's event. Allegra's one-woman shows have consistently drawn sold-out houses at the Minnesota Fringe; her most recent, "I Hate Kenny G," combined her fearsome storytelling chops with some mean saxophone solos. "I can't wait to see what Allegra will choose to bestow upon us," says Unbound Artistic Director Stacey Poirier. "We're not sure, but we think we see a saxophone case in her back seat."
The 24-Hour Play Project and Benefit Gala continues Theatre Unbound's mission of providing opportunities to women artists. Playwrights, directors, and actors take on the challenge of six new
short plays written, rehearsed, and propelled onto the stage in just 24 hours! The Gala includes silent and live auctions with "Dinner & A Show" packages, Pottery, Jewelry, Vikings cooler filled with beer, TU Tea Party, and complimentary cocktails and hors d'oeuvres.

PROCESS
Through our website, we invite the general public to vote among 50 ingredients such as a line of dialog, an emotion, a prop, or a stage direction. On Friday evening at 9:00 pm, we reveal the winning ingredients to 6 teams of 2 playwrights, who must include all the ingredients in their scripts. At 6:00 on Saturday morning, the newly written plays are assigned directors, a cast, and rehearsal time. Rehearsals are conducted throughout the day - technical rehearsals skid to a halt just in time for the doors to open at 7:00 pm. Performances begin at 8:00 pm.

This year's directors: Brenda Bell Brown (MN Black Storytellers Alliance), Kristin Kenning (Doctorate of Musical Arts – U of MN), Dionne Laviolette (Guthrie Theatre Internship), Heather Meyer (National Theatre for Children), Jenna Papke (Shakespeare's Globe Theatre Internship), Rebecca Rizzio (Theatre Unbound Company Member), Anika Taylor (Macalester College), and Cheryl Willis (Jungle Theatre, Theatre de la Jeune Lune).
This activity is made possible in part by funds provided by Target.
Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet)
Written by Ann-Marie MacDonald
Directed by Genevieve Bennett
April 11 - May 3, 2008
A coded manuscript (lost source material for Shakespeare's Othello and Romeo and Juliet?) hurls Constance Ledbelly head over heels into the two plays, turning tragedy to comedy - twists, fights, dances, seductions and surprises. Winner of the Canadian Governor General's Literary Award for Drama, 1990.
