Robin Morgan:
The "otherizing" of women is the oldest oppression known to our species, and it's the model, the template, for all other oppressions.

THEATRE UNBOUND STITCHES WOMEN'S STORIES TOGETHER
Newman and Damashek's Quilters unfolds
the creative legacy of women pioneers

"We know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness"
– President Barack Obama

Theatre Unbound presents the classic musical Quilters by Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek, April 3-25, 2009. Performances take place at the Neighborhood House in the Paul and Sheila Wellstone Center, 179 Robie Street E in St. Paul. Ticket prices are on a sliding scale $12-$28. See show calendar below for dates and times.

"Quilters was inspired by real women's stories, oral histories of women who survived blizzards, prairie fires, grasshopper plagues, disease and famine," says Unbound Artistic Director Stacey Poirier. "The quilts they made didn't just keep them warm - they brought friends and family together to make something beautiful out of next to nothing. A musical about the power of creativity in tough times - pretty timely. And inspiring."

An all female cast bring these pioneer women to life, including: Dana Clausen (Guthrie Theatre), Rebecca Gebhart (Drake University), Sara Kessler (OOPS Dinner Theatre), Amy Lithander (Ballet of the Dolls), Angela Marsh (Park Square), Tamara Philbrick Ripley (Chameleon Theatre Circle), and Jane Samsal (Troupe America). Directed by Ellen Fenster (Pillsbury House, Illusion Theatre). Musical Direction by Kristin Kenning (U of M Opera Department).

ABOUT THEATRE UNBOUND

Theatre Unbound produces high quality, visionary theatre created by women - powerful stories that represent women in active pursuit of their goals and desires; female perspectives on universal struggles and achievements.

In 1999 seven Twin Cities women theatre artists formed Theatre Unbound with one intention - to tell women's stories. We created a space for these stories by producing the works of women playwrights, unleashing the visions of women directors, and broadening the scope of female characters seen on the stage.
