Robin Morgan:
The "otherizing" of women is the oldest oppression known to our species, and it's the model, the template, for all other oppressions.

THEATRE UNBOUND PREMIERES LINDSAY PRICE'S SHATTERED
Drama imagines Alzheimer's disease from the inside

Within a mind affected by Alzheimer's disease, past selves battle to save fading memories – or obliterate them.

Theatre Unbound presents the world premiere of Lindsay Price's Shattered, October 14-28, and takes the experience beyond the stage with these special features:

  • October 21 and 28: Post-show panel discussions with Alzheimer's caregivers
  • All performances: Lobby displays with information about the disease, and art and writings by people with Alzheimer's

Shattered runs October 14-28, 2006 at The Playwrights' Center in Minneapolis, 2301 Franklin Avenue East in Minneapolis (see show calendar). Ticket prices are $16 (regular adult), $14 (student/senior), and $12 (groups of 8 or more; veterans and active military). Call 612-721-1186 for reservations or more information.

"Shattered originally came to Theatre Unbound as an entry for our Finding Voice script contest in 2004," says Unbound Artistic Director Stacey Poirier. "It captivated us with its portrayal of a woman struggling to accept who she has been throughout her life. And the more we learned about Alzheimer's disease – which touches almost half the people in Minnesota, either through diagnosis or caregiving – the more we realized that it is a truly universal story. We knew we had to produce it."

Shattered is directed by Laura Wilhelm (Mad Munchkin Productions), who first worked with Theatre Unbound on the February 2006 revival of Women! Live On Stage! The cast includes Katie Bradley (Theatre Mu, Great American History Theatre), Jane C. Froiland (Starting Gate, Gremlin), Jamie White Jachimiec (Nimbus Theatre), Christina Frank (Council of Doom), Shundreya Robinson (Third Rabbit Dance), Terri Elofson Bly (Hardcover Theatre), and Michelle C. Myers (Frank Theatre, Great American History Theatre).

Lindsay Price is a Canadian playwright whose work has been produced by Collaboraction Theatre (Chicago), And Toto Too Theatre Company (Denver), and StageRight Theatre (New York), among others.

Theatre Unbound produces high quality, visionary theatre created by women - powerful stories that represent women in active pursuit of their goals and desires; female perspectives on universal struggles and achievements.

  • City Pages: Best of The Twin Cities 2004: Best Theatre for New Work (honorable mention)
  • Minnesota Women's Press: Feminist Finds 2004: Favorite Local Theatre (honorable mention)
