Robin Morgan:
The "otherizing" of women is the oldest oppression known to our species, and it's the model, the template, for all other oppressions.

THEATRE UNBOUND UNCOVERS HISTORICAL TREASURE
Women! Live On Stage! is back by popular demand

Come one, come all as Theatre Unbound unleashes:

  • A Chinese warrior turning into a prostitute!
  • Commedia divas on stilts!
  • A kabuki dancer in drag!

These are just a few of the true stories of female theatre artists that Theatre Unbound lets loose in Women! Live On Stage! a brief history of women in theatre.

Women! Live On Stage! runs for two performances only at Central Presbyterian Church, 500 Cedar Street in St. Paul, with the following schedule:

  • FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 8:00 PM
  • SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 8:00 PM

Tickets are $12 and can be reserved by calling 612.721.1186 (extension 1).

Audiences and reviewers had this to say about the premiere of Women! Live On Stage! at the 2004 Minnesota Fringe Festival:

  • "dazzling ... a theatrical feast" – William Randall Beard, Minneapolis Star Tribune
  • "edgy, enlightening, funny and entertaining" – Edwin Strout
  • "Women! Live On Stage! entertains and yet presents something very serious, and a bit disturbing, about the place (or lack thereof) of women in the theatre." – Todd Hughes

"The theatre has not always welcomed the full leadership of women," says Pastor David Colby of Central Presbyterian Church. "And unfortunately, the same is true for religious organizations. Central Presbyterian Church celebrates the gifts of women. We are proud to host this production!"

Women! Live On Stage! features Unbound company members Stacey Poirier, Heather Brady (15 Head), and Delta Giordano (Park Square, Teatro del Pueblo, Illusion Theatre, Cheap Theatre). Jen Rand, Channing Jones, and Sara Schmidt Boldon round out the ensemble cast. Laura Wilhelm directs.

Theatre Unbound produces high quality, visionary theatre created by women - powerful stories that represent women in active pursuit of their goals and desires; female perspectives on universal struggles and achievements.

  • City Pages: Best of The Twin Cities 2004: Best Theatre for New Work (honorable mention)
  • Minnesota Women's Press: Feminist Finds 2004: Favorite Local Theatre (honorable mention)
